This forum is for cars that run, or at least are close to running. This isn't for parting out complete cars.

eBay '87 DLX and '86 SR5 in PA

Post by ARCHINSTL »

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1986-Toy ... C72%3A1171
Sold as parts car - no mileage shown - seller states most things good (and runs) but has bad clutch. Lots of photos.

Has 149K miles - is actually an '87 DLX and not an '86 SR5. Lots of photos.
Glen Rock, PA 149K miles

Both cars are in Glen Rock, PA. I think it is a charity of some kind, whence the inaccuracies of descriptions.

I went and looked at these today. he said he wants 500 for the gold one and 850 for the white one...i...think hes...lets say "very hopeful" to put it tactfully... i mostly looked at the gold one as its what i was considering. the battery is dead, couldnt start it and i belive the clutch is indeed shot as was in the ebay description and because i tryed to pop start it and nothing grabbed... it is also very far from "rust free" and the interior isnt impressive either...some cracked plastic and missing parts. drivers side window needs fixed, wont roll up and is off the track...broken gas door. rocker panels have very large dents in them the whole length and are also quite rusty even tho they didnt show it at first....they do show it now cause i was able to poke atleast 5 holes in them using only my fingers...engine is supposedly good according to the guy, but i couldnt start it to check it out. the oil was at the right level but pretty black, there also appeared to be no coolant in the radiator...

the white one is very rusty, but is supposedly running and driving fine, i opened the door and peeked in and the lights came on but i didnt attempt to start it.

the good: odomitor reads 112k, lights and glass appear to be intact... white one has 149k on it..

i want the gold one for parts, specifically the spare tranny and the power steering rack/crossmember but i think 500 is way too much...what do you guys think is a fair price...?

Interesting - the gold one sold - guess someone backed out?
$500 seems like a lot for what is essentially a hulk - but the motor and tranny with only 112K....
I'd wait a bit, as I could not imagine any other interest in a hulk, save to another Wagon fan. If you have room to store it, it could be a mine for you and also a revenue source.

yeah it did sell...but the guy said that the high bidder never payed or contacted him...so i guess its still for sale...he would have told me if it wasnt i imagine. when i first offered 100 and then 200 his argument was "why would i sell it to you for that low when i can just relist it and get atleast 500" but i truely dont think anybody who actually comes and looks at it would pay that much...or if they didnt look and bought it they would be greatly dissapointed and then raise hell after they did finally see it...

i was under the impression it was in mint condition aside from the clutch before i saw it...

what do you think would be a reasonable offer for it as it sits? i was told no more than 200 by one person, and then 100 IF it turns over and runs or only $25 if it doesnt start by another person...

i only payed 100 for the one i have now that starts runs and drives fine with 170k and some rusty rocker panels...

the car I am selling for $300 (83 tercel 4wd) are way better deal than what you saw , my car has no rust at all axcept rear hatch back door is the only one that is rusty , 98% parts all there , to bad it too far from your place , i wouldn'd pay more that $100 for that car,

OK. i called the guy back yesterday and explained what i saw that was wrong with the car, and then i offered him $150 for it as it sits, or $200 if he deliveres it to my house (50 miles away). he then proceeded to say "ha your a funny guy..." and tell me that he is a car dealer and that i know nothing about cars and blah blah blah...and i dont really care. i said "well you have my number and thanks for your time" but by then he had hung up on me i think. he said hes going to relist it on ebay, but i believe that if anybody does bid $500 on it again and they follow thru on it, that they will be very dissapointed or get angry or get cold feet upon actually seeing it.

i believe he is just a car dealer and it isnt a chairity as was sudgested...but judging by the one email footer i got from him, they are very religious people. they also are selling there house...not sure how relevant that is, but maybe it indicates alot of debt...
