Hey folks,
I need to replace the torn CV boots under my rig and have decided to replace both half axles in the process. Autozone has a pair of "Duralast New/CV Halfshafts" (Product numbers 7403N/7404N) available for $60/piece with free shipping to my home. My question is, does anyone have an opinion on these halfshafts?
This will be my first CV axle swap, so any comments/guidance is more than welcome.
Thanks,
Jonesy

Re: CV Axle Question
I am pretty sure "duralast" is the brand the nationwide chain Les Swab tire stores use, if they had a lot of complaints they would not use them (they warranty everything they do for 25,000 miles). I have used the Les Swab axles in my car, and switched them to another car when I junked the old one, and now have about 90,000 miles or more on them. They have recently developed a slight thumping on sharp turns under acceleration, but I intend to keep driving on them until they get much worse.
That is also a good price, includes shipping too? I should go get a spare set. I would not hesitate to buy them if they are the same as they were 5 years ago.

Re: CV Axle Question
Be sure to renew the seals of the axles into the transmission - https://tercel4wd.com/forums/viewtopic.php? ... als#p34235
Also - https://tercel4wd.com/forums/viewtopic.php? ... les#p34503
Be sure you get seals that look like this (I've been given incorrect ones which had the same part number): BECK/ARNLEY Part # 0523521 (in Rock Auto catalog).
Also - review the various threads on refilling the transmission fluid (a PITA). While I'm sure you realize it - remove the filler plugs before draining, in the event they've been stripped over the years (easy to do). Also check for comments on modifying wrenches to fit these shallow heads.

Re: CV Axle Question
Great information guys, thanks for sharing. I've ordered the halfshafts, and also ordered the seals based on garyfish's recommendation (BECK/ARNLEY Part # 0523521). I'll let you know how the swap turns out!
