Way Stuupid Question...

Post by noface »

What is the button on the console near the 4wd shifter for on my 85 4wd Manual shift Tercel for? The lettering or symbol is worn off, and I can't tell that the switch does anything at all... it's a 3 position rocker switch.

Is it a low range selector switch? Do these thing even have low range?

Never seen one there on 4 so far. Does it look OE? It might have been added. Fogs maybe?

it looks OEM to me.

maybe get some pics later on... looks kinda like there's a place for another switch too molded into the console plastic...

there are no fog lights on it... unless the lens' that are right next to the headlights are fogs... never seen them come on though

All mine have had coin holder on the left and thats it. It does look like there are knockouts on the right side though.

I would guess they are for dealer installed accessories only.

I wonder if toyota has some nice switches available that snap right in. I like clean installs.

that is a very good question , i was wondering that for so many years, however if it for fog light that would be stupid place for switch if accidental hit switch and leave the car while left fog light "ON" then battery dead , in this forum i remember there a guy in FINLAND his tercel come with heated seat ,might be for that switch at console.
I 'm putting a fog light on my car and the switch will be at bellow from rear defroster switch , using same kind as defroster switch for my fog light , nice, neat and clean install, not like MICKEY MOUSE JOB.

Way Stuupid Question...
There are no stupid questions here! ;) Everyone learns stuff everyday!!! ;) However with your concern, I am thinking if you live in the Pacific somewhere, then you have the Sprinter Carib with the TEMS package probably.. TEMS = Toyota Electronically Modulated Suspension
and there were three switches usually for it and located behind the shifter with Normal, Sport and I think Hard buttons... However, you described only one switch so maybe you have a not-always-seen model maybe similar to that Finnish model... I agree though with everyone else, PICS would definitely help us, including me, to better determine what the switch is there for! ;) Ok take care and good luck on your Tercel unsolved mysteries that you require solved... :)

I thought only the later corolla wagon models had the adjustable suspension bits.

It's probably something someone added after they bought it. If you unscrew the console, you can trace where the wires go.

I installed one in that spot in my tercel, so I could have under dash lighting. The space is a standard size, you can buy the switches at Napa.

I love those green lights, they are pretty amazing. Although i've been thinking of switching them out for red. As far as I know red is the best color for inside light, easiest on the eyes (which is why the coast guard uses red lights in their "first room" entry ways.)

Also, I found a 175 watt invertor under the passenger seat...

Yeah, I chose green to match the instrument lights. I was going to put red LEDs under the seats, but never got around to that. The wiring would have been tricky too.

Oh! I was just wondering today where I had put that inverter. Guess I forgot to take it out. :? Oh well. :P

Did you want it back? I'd be fine with giving it back. Next time I'm up north I could swing by, I remember where you live.
