4AC swap
I just finished swapping out the 3AC to a 4AC I got from U-Pull-It parts out of an 87 Corolla FWD. Thanks to this forum for a lot of valuable hints and suggestions to make the job go well. I used the 4AC carb as well. It is a little different so I'm still working on getting fast idle of AC and pondering what to do with some extra vacuum ports etc.

Yup it was clean..and that impressed me when I removed it from the donar. The 3AC was spewing oil from the valve cover before I bought him and continued to leak from the distributor o ring and rear main seal. The clutch failed for the previous owner because of this. I inherited oil and residue over the engine compartment and beyond. At this point I think I have the leaks under control knock on my head
Took him for a drive with the Mrs. this afternoon. We pushed the 8,000 ft. continental divide on hyway 550 with full AC and doing 65 mph with pedal to spare. I'm likin it.

The motor cost $150. This U-Pull-It has a big A frame affair with a chain hoist on car tires that are on swivvel axels. Really handy. They also have a $25 core charge.

if the FWD card is too much hassle, the 3a and 4a carbs are the same part, by design a carburetor can supply a larger engine (not too much larger, 100cc`s isn`t enough of a difference in our case) with enough fuel because its dependent on how much air is being drawn through it.
totally, i used a RWD SR5 engine from a 5spd, you need to use your 3ac flywheel of the 4ac, so the fact the auto has a tourque converter and flex plate won`t be an issue.jetswim wrote:Would a 4AC from a Corolla RWD automatic work in our Tercels?
Tercel 4WD "POWER WAGOON" with 4A-C

mods: ignition at 10 DBTDC and 90 octane gas.

Thanks for the info. So I need to use the 3AC Flywheel and Transmission on with the 4AC. I have an 85 SR5 automatic so i might do this one day!
Current rides: 1987 SR5 4WD wagon, 1989 xtra cab pickup 22RE 5spd 4X4
I did a 4ac swap this summer from an '86 nova FWD. I too, am having problems getting all the hoses connected so that it will idle properly. The car runs great on the road, other that a vibration that is driving me crazy. I think it is the CV joints, but it might be my junkyard tires (spin balanced) out of round.
