where to get PCV hose?

Post by kyleroc »

I tried to replace the PCV valve on my '86 today. In the process, I shattered the gromett (guess it needed replacing too) and somehow managed to snap the hose too. After a 2.5 mile walk to the autozone, I came back without a gromett or a replacement hose. I've found places online to order the gromett from but where to get PCV hose? Any suggestions? Thanks!

I have found the grommet in stock at several AutoZones in STL; it is a MotorMite part # 42058 at $2.50. I have seen it at O'Reilly and Advance as well. It is usually in the rack of odds and ends and gas pedal covers, etc. It is on their sites as well, but why pay postage?

The hose is another matter, however; it is preformed specifically for the Tercel's circuitous path. I got one in '05 at the local Toy dealer for $15 (an order-type item). It was worth it, though, as it is really difficult to get something else to fit properly.
You might try a salvage yard, however; apart from Gen 2 Tercels, I believe that era RWD Corollas used the same hose. Pop for the new grommet, though; you do want a good seal.

Incidentally, the old grommet is a perfect fit for the hold-downs for the air cleaner tabs to the cam cover.

Hey thanks alot! I figured I might have to head to the dealer for the hose. It seems pointless to replace old rotten hose with more old rotten hose so I'll skip the yards on this one. I'll try some other stores around town for the gromett.

You can use straight PCV hose and put a stretched spring inside to keep it from collapsing.

I got a PCV valve hose at my local Pep Boys, but like ARCHINSTL pointed out it's has to be preformed. The one that I bought was not and although it fits (it gets pinched down a little by the aircleaner), it's not the same. The PCV valve grommet is not more than $4 if I remember correctly and again, I bought this from Pep Boys.
