Hey y'all.
I'm replacing the left side axle assembly on my 85 with a new one from GSP (Advance). The question is, should I put the dynamic damper from my OEM shaft back on it?
The GSP shaft is a slightly smaller diameter but I figure I could fill the gap with something. The new shaft is a constant diameter the whole length where the OEM shaft changes diameter.
Am I going to get a bunch of vibration if I don't replace the damper?
Thanks,
Tercelbill
Put original damper on new front axle?

Yep, you're right. While the new axle isn't listed on the website, I called my local Advance and they confirmed that new axles are available. I'm wondering if they're the same as the Empi axles. Not that it really matters. The advantage to buying them from Advance is that there's actually a store to back up the warranty.
The cost is pretty much the same. The new axle from my local Advance is $85, with tax it'd be almost exactly the same.keith wrote:That and the EMPI cost $93 ea., I just bought the one for the passenger side.
I'd be all over the Empis if there was a local B&M that sold them. Even if the mail-order places give a lifetime warranty (and some do), shipping them back just once would wipe out the deal.

tercelbill - keep us informed on how the GSP goes (I know you will).
It is good to add another to the mix.
neonsport - you certainly make a good and valid point about the shipping return cost if defective.
Also interesting about whether the GSP and the EMPI are the same - I guess maybe a pix would be revealing. I did not see anything on the GSP website.
Interesting about the damper - would Toy have installed it if it were redundant? I did not realize it was removable, never having replaced one - yet.

I had to pay tax too, so the total came to $103. I don't regret my decision, I made the best decision with the information at the time. Had I known that Advance would be carrying something essentially the same, I would have gone there as I prefer brick and mortar myself. I might wait till next weekend to put it in though, bad weather this weekend. The cost is pretty much the same. The new axle from my local Advance is $85, with tax it'd be almost exactly the same.
