Just joined and wanted to say hello and give a quick intro.
I live in snow country in the western corner of NY State. I have been a Toyota fan for many years along with old Oldsmobiles. I have a 90 4 Runner now that runs great but is starting to have frame issues with rust. So I have been thinking about finding a Tercel 4wd to replace it as a winter car. If anyone has a car in my area let me know. I am more concerned with rust than mechanical condition. My home email is jtmwalt@alltel.net if anyone wants to reach me.
Thanks
Joe Walters

If you do find one, have the underbody stripped down and coated with either new factory-style rubberized coating or one of those heavy-duty truck bedliners... Like Line-X. Help keep the underbody rust to a bare minimum for at least the next 6 years. If done right, probably 10 or 12 years.

Hi all,
I haven't seen a Terecel 4wd for quite awhile. But a friend said he was following one the other day, so we know there is at least 1 around. As you know rust is the killer here. So if I really want one I will probably need to bring one in from out of state. I get most of my Olds stuff out of state, so you never know.
Good tip on the under body rustproofing, I agree.
Thanks,
Joe

Actually, generally all you need to do is verify the smog sticker under the hood say "This vehicle conforms to all applicable US emissions and safety standards for the year of manufacture", which every Toyota imported into North America has. Regardless if it was sold in Canada or the States.
Actually, after going and looking, our cars have the required information listed both on the dor jamb AND under the hood!! I apologise for the crappy pictures, it seems my camera's auto focus function no longer functions and it doesn't have a manual focus option.....

Then when you come to the border, show them the receipt of purchase and pay the excise tax for importation (don't remember the percentage they take you for). And then that's it.
Can you tell I used to live in Point Roberts, Washington and every car I bought HAD to come from Canada as it was a 52 mile round trip to get to any of the rest of the United States?
I imported at LEAST 20 cars from Canada and never had a problem.

I didn't realize so many cars met the standards for both Countries. I think what I keep hearing about is for cars that were sold in Canada but never sold in the US. That becomes a lot more difficult based on what I've heard.
