OE Paint Surrogate Suggestion ?

Post by ARCHINSTL »

I'm looking for a sub for the OE color of Goldie.
The paint code is 4E1, which is the light topaz metallic.
DupliColor, et al, no longer carry paint for our mature cars, and I really balk at $22/can plus the clear coat plus shipping for some of the custom color places (not that I doubt their accuracy/quality, though).
I'm contemplating painting the grille the body color, after doing some computer painting of a photo - and viewing the Japanese Tercel that was pictured a while back (Mattel furnished?).
Anyone have a suggestion? My local AZ and Advance do not seem to have anything very close that is off the rack.
Thanks,
Tom M.

The dealerships still carry touch-up aerosols I think. They did for 147 Silver Metallic.

Why not pick an interesting colour to paint your tercel. Mine was gold and I found it particularly ugly, so I went with orange (bright tangerine it's called, also seen on mustangs). I never lose it in a parking lot and people see me all over in it.

My longer term goal is to pick a different color - but mechanical items must take precedence. I'm not in love with the gold either, but all of it is in really great shape - and no rust.
I've been thinking eventually silver or similar, although I would dearly love the kinda ink black tu-tone on that German brochure.

Dark Midnight Blue Metallic baby...
Dunno if such a color by name exists, but I have a picture in my mind....
With a neon green electrical firestorm going down the side.. I dunno if I could get an artist to properly portray "electrical fire" though... You know, when the super-fine bolts of electricity fire through the air and ionize the air surrounding them forming a whitish-blue flame? I suppose you'd have had to see 250,000 volts arcing in the dark to know of what I speak though...

Uhhhh - No on the 250K volt thing....
Electricity still amazes me - that it comes out through a couple of holes in the wall and yet does not jump out and bite or shoot flames - well, unless you do something dumb like stick a key in the socket (of which I was guilty a long time ago).
