Rough Idling? Buying used '86

Post by westphi »

Hi everyone, I'm looking at buying a '87 and the car has some rough idling, any idea what might be the source of this problem? Thanks a bunch!

if you can get us a recording, or better yet a video of you moving around the opened hood while it idles, someone will probably be able to tell you what it is.

Barring that, can you be a bit more descriptive?

there is a ton of things that can cause rough idle, but a "good" tune-up will fix many of the causes. Get a compression test and if out of spec, a leak down test before buying it. if both of these tests are fine, prob not a difficult fix, look at the plugs while they are out for the compression test, they can tell a lot about what is happening in the cylinders.
