Couple of questions

Post by Lollypop »

First off ...my Terc is only hitting on 3 cyl. ...number three is dead....I didnt even know it till I pulled the spark wire found no change in the engine. The motor still has plenty power, goes uphill fine, good mileage, all seems fine thats why I didnt know. Soooooo what wrong wit it?....it also has spark

One last thing is this happened after I decarbonized....

Next thing..is the pistons in our motors forged?

I've had plugs foul out when doing the carbon thing...need to clean them? Not firing at idle?

Do a compression test to see if you have a burnt valve or other problem. Be sure to do a wet and dry test. Also, check the valve clearances. If they are too tight, one or more valves might not be seating closed.

I havent tried the compression yet...gotta buy a gauge...if it is a burnt valve is there a quick fix ? what is a wet dry test?

the plug fires but when I pull the wire it doesnt change the motor......

Another thing this happened after I set the valves...think I put some too tight?......

Valve adjusting can be tricky...might want to go thru it again to be sure...think there is a writeup in the repair section.

Always do the dry test first.
Dry test means you test compression at operating temp and with nothing altered, other than all sparkers pulled.
Wet test means the same as a dry test, with 1 exception. You inject about 1 tablespoon of oil into the cyl you are testing. Do one at a time, and crank the engine for about 5 secs before screwing in the tester.

I can describe how to do the entire test if you need?
