Alternator upgrade?

Post by donaldc »

Just wondering if there is a higher amp alternator available for my 83 tercel wagon. That is a direct bolt on. It has the external voltage regulator.

i think all denso alternators are pretty much the same, but don't quote me on that.

find a alternator rebuilder and ask them, if they are knowlegable, they should be abel to tell you if its possible to use a differant alternator.

I'd imagine converting to an internal regulator would make finding a higher output alternator easier. Denso alternators are all pretty similar, but you have to pay attention to the way they bolt to the car. Some have very different mounting ears. I'd start looking at larger Toyotas like Camrys and Cressidas. They have more electronic crap and would most likely have higher output alternators.

Got the same car...the wiring is different...you'd need to figure that out.
