Just redid the O2 sensor in my other car and it looks like a good gain in MPG might be the result...not a full tank test yet though.
Has anyone repalced their Tercel O2 sensor?
Any advantage with going with a Toyota sensor vs Bosch?
Any problems when replacing it?
My sensor has at least 30K miles on it...and since I don't know the history of the car....it might have much more.
R & R O2 Sensor.........??

Hmmm...my car doesn't have an 02 sensor. I think only the ones equiped with the emissions computer have an 02 sensor.

My '83 has one and it looks to be pretty old...rusted and so forth...can get a Bosch for around $30.
The one on my other car which was overdue for R&R by about 50K miles still had some plating on it........a Bosch.....replaced with a Bosch. Besides some likely MPG gains...car runs better and no loss of power seen.

My O2 sensor looks like the factory one lol..........
Just bought a Bosch and will wrestle with removing it sometime in the weekend........... Hopefully. I'm praying it will improve mileage, even if just by 3, but I'd love the 25% improvement the guy at AZ said I could expect from that old of a car.
Over the last 3 tanks I've averaged 24 MPG... We'll see what happens post-change. If nothing does, I might try to completely remove it and cap off the hole. Why not remove the half inch round, half inch long protrusion into the exhaust stream, if it has no function?

Because it helps control all of those other annoying electrical/vac operated controls scattered all over the engine compartment and on the carb, that's why. Even when it is not working properly, it is still sending a signal to the ecu. I had an old terc that had a bad-ish (worked but only under certain conditions) O2, and it ran alright, and got alright mileage. Replaced it, mileage improved and overall it ran better. You could tell when the old one actually started doing its job, but it wasn't doing it most of the time. Why not remove the half inch round, half inch long protrusion into the exhaust stream, if it has no function?
If you wanna yank the thing off, you might as well get rid of the cat and all other related emissions stuff, and maybe try to find a ecu from a non-emissions car. Or figure out how to wire it all up with all the missing stuff. Good luch with that....But it would make for a pretty nice engine compartment.
Fingers

Well I did pull it. The interior protrusion looked Factory as well... Very rusted with almost no element inside the cage.
First effect? Fired her up, smelled a funky exhaust smell... Then it cleared up to clearer than I've smelled it in a long time. A lot clearer in fact. It idled a bit more smoothely (nothig massive) and it fired very quickly after shut-down. It even felt like it was a tad more responsive. I'm not sure how much of that is the Placebo effect, but I do know the exhaust smelled a good bit cleaner. We'll see what happens to mileage, if anything.

Last year I tested the O2 sensor and didn’t see a signal. I replaced it with a Bosch and I still don’t get a signal! The performance didn’t change and the car seems to run OK, and I do not have to worry about emissions -yet. Any suggestions on where to look for the fault?
