3A-C MODS

Post by Aldavr6 »

Hi I'm new to this forum and have some questions about this cars, so excuse me if I ask something stupid. the main question for now is what kind of mods can I perform to the 3A-C? What about a compatible engine and how hard it'll be to swap?

That wasn't a stupid question at all. Why as a matter of fact, I think I can help you out. Go here: http://www.hahnracecraft.com/auto/Unive ... Turbos.htm. They have some turbos for universal applications, which might just have to be modified slightly to work with the 3A-C. Other than that, you got yourself a turbocharger. For intercoolers: http://www.hahnracecraft.com/hahn/parts ... oolers.htm. Also you could look into a Sports Compact Car magazine and check out the latest modifications the guys did to their rides, so you could do the same. Check for engine and the like. Flatlander Racing has some pretty good parts, as well. http://www.importperformanceparts.net/. On the left margin, find Toyota and click on it. Then click on some radical engine rebuild parts for performance. You know what, you can also do this: http://www.autobarn.com/keystone/parts_ ... ystone.php. Then you can find your make/model/year and click universal parts included and whatever other boxes you wish, then find a universal performance part for your engine. Nice, eh?! But, if you want to swap in an engine like a 5AF or 4AGE, I'd check with FH Bible first, to see exactly what he did and to ask him what stuff he performed on the swap. You could also ask wedge on this site: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t19926.html. Good luck. I hope you have the modified 3A-C or engine swap of your dreams! :) 8) :D   :!:

TERCELDUDE: THANKS FOR YOUR RESPONSE, BUT SO FAR I HAVEN'T SEEN ANY TERC 4WD WITH A 4AGE SWAP IN THE GALLERY SECTION. SO, IS THERE A DRAWBACK IN DOING THIS SWAP? SHOGUN: WHAT WAS THE RESULT OF APPLYING 4A PARTS TO THE 3A ENGINE?

I wouldn't recommend putting 4 parts on the 3, rather taking the whole 4 engine.
Disadvantage to putting in the AGE? Our trannies are little girly-things. They DO NOT respond well to anything above stock power... Heck, they don't even like stock power much.
Because of the tranny question, you ramp the cost up considerably. Why? Custom gears and shafts have to be cut for the tranny to take the power if you wish to maintain a 4wd setup. If you just want to do a RWD setup, take a RWD Corolla drivetrain.

Not to mention the sad little front diff.

I do love these cars, BUT I WANT POWER!!!

ive used 10.5:1 custom pistons an nitrous with a ida 48 webber on the 3as manifold and it held up pretty fine, ive also raced 3 whole seasons of autocross whith the same tranny, so they hold up, just use the highest quality fluids on your car, the pistons i melted because of a plugged gasloine soleniod the engine went too, now im about to instal cam from a 3as and exahust manifold to a ported 3as head and see what happens, the head is coing to be milled an d a 5 angle valve job is being done about now
so ill post my results

I might be examining adapting a plate to allow for Subaru AWD tranny......... Still have some research to do though.
