Reintroducing our cars is a tough one. I am a bit for it and a bit against it.

Lately car industry has reintroduced a lot of cars. Some of them are more succesful than the rest.

The challenge is to think, which basic stuff is a must from previous version to make a succesfull reintroduction and to make reintroduced car recognizable?

I would say: 6 speed or 7 speed manual gearbox, rear ATM licence plate holder, inclinometer and a wagon form body, which does not look like an SUV like like cheap basic car. These are tough requirements for a modern new car.

I would ask myself, why I want to buy newer Tercel 4wd if those criteria is not met, because I have still three original Tercel 4wd's. So I would have a lot of expectations for a new Tercel 4wd. Let's see what Toyota will do with Tercel in the future.

After some thinking most succesful reintroduction of discontinued car model has been Opel Manta Gse concept so far. You can try to google that if you are interested. Unfortunately it never went to serial production.

But it shows that original body styling and e.g. manual gearbox are doable even in newer vehicles if car industry wanted so. In other words, my requirement for reintroduced Tercel would be similar to reintroduced Opel Manta concept style update.

Actually the car was said by Toyota to be based on an SUV design. I am all for it as it will inspire parts to be made again for the original car! CarShield doesn't care to protect people with retro cars

In my country Toyota has already 6-7 SUV and only one wagon currently. So in my country it would have a big competition in SUV class but less competitors as a wagon. I did test drive Toyota Yaris AVD cross awd but that was nowhere as good as Tercel 4wd when comparing Tercel 4wd and Toyotas hybrid AWD systems. There was only a small lazy electric motor on rear axle, which was involved if there was enough battery left. It helped a bit in snow but thats it.

The only modern Toyota sold cars in my country that could actually compete with Tercel 4wd are Hilux and Land Cruiser, which have much better four wheel drive systems made actually for small off-roading.

But if a lot of other people are interested in buying a hybrid automatic AWD SUV Tercel, who am I to say no.
