1985 Toyota Tercel general spec. Brochure
Today is my day off. Therefore, I have time to do extra things that I would in normal case complete later. I decided to share these Tercel 4wd details because of several discussions both in Facebook and in here.
The topic of today is Toyota Tercel 4wd general spec. You can identify these cars from sales region, which is marked as "general" or as "gen". It means that these Tercels were sold outside Europe, Australia, Japan, USA & Canada, which had their own recognizable features as you know already.
It means that these cars share features from all other market areas, but have their own unique look. I have learnt through discussions that such cars were sold at least in Middle America (Costa Rica) and in South America (Peru). Other possible sales areas are Africa, Arabic Countries and Asian countries. Trim of these cars was always DLX. But they had inclinometer and wide door trims similarly to most European Tercels. Next I will attach some pictures from a 1985 model brochure.
I have actually all parts to convert my 1986 European spec. 4wd Tercel to general spec. but we will see. Other alternatives are AV-I Carib and 1982-1984 European Tercel 4wd. So another point is also to show that such cars existed in case I will make one.

Don't be deceived by the D in AL25LG(RG)-ZWFDS as Sprinter Carib AV-II (SR5) from 1982-OCTOBER 1983, when they introduced the RV SPECIAL model (HDX model) and Automatic Transmission always was E-AL25G-MWFES with E being the same as High Luxury model designations like LE, VE, EX, SE, etc. That model was clearly a sports, not luxury, model though.

Re: 1985 Toyota Tercel general spec. Brochure
The GEN SPEC model was the closest model you could get to the Carib in terms of model number and front end design at least until the 3rd period model was introduced. Although all models and even later Swiss models, JPN and USA and CND always used the small rear license plate holders w/o the rear fog lamp. AUTO DRIVE (Cruise Control) was only introduced to the American market in February 1985.

On a final note for today, this is an Egyptian movie from 1986 starring the GEN Spec model offered from at least August 1982 to January 1983, when they introduced an SR5 WAGON version of the GEN Spec model:

and this site shows parts from the latest original collision and fast-mover quick reference parts catalog to the EUG, EUR, ARL, GEN and FRG models and more. This one is to the AL25RG-ZWFDS, the closest GEN SPEC model to the Carib model #s:

Here is my May 1986 New ZEALAND brochure:

Grade was not always DLX, that is not true. That's what Toyota wanted you to believe but an SR5 model for the GEN market was formerly introduced in January 1983, see here:

Re: 1985 Toyota Tercel general spec. Brochure
I am ok with everything except the Netherlands. Here you can see the 2023 article from Dutch Toyota: https://www.toyota.nl/ontdek-toyota/nie ... ota-Tercelterceldude wrote: Thu Jan 02, 2025 2:32 pmThose models were sold in Chile, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Egypt, Brunei, the Bahamas and the Caribbean as far as I know. I have attached pictures from that article to my answer in case the article will disappear from Dutch Toyota Website. Dutch Toyotas are very similar with rest of left-hand drive Tercels. Wide licence plate holder, European / Australian grill and ECE approved headlights. The main common factor between all European Tercels are E-approved headlights. It is European version of DOT approved headlights. That is why Toyota made Europe as sales region in the first place.
I have understood that New Zealand Tercels are highly similar with Australian ones but I am not 100% sure of that either. And rest of countries could be for sure gen spec. Tercels.

Re: 1985 Toyota Tercel general spec. Brochure
Are you sure that this is a brochure from the Netherlands? That is a gen spec. Tercel for sure! And the grill has the 1982-1984 4wd font. It says Tercel but not further dealer details in the first page at least. So I am interested in further details for sure.terceldude wrote: Thu Jan 02, 2025 2:35 pmI also have two copies of that same brochure both from September 1984 and one from the Netherlands directly and one indirectly from New Zealand.
