European spec. Tercel 4wd point ignition and electronical ignition difference

Post by Nordical25 »

I have been talking in many occasions of difference between point igntion and electronical ignition. Now I have provided material of the difference.

The wiring diagram is from Finnish 1983-1987 Corolla repair manual. It shows both systems. Early 1983-1984 E8 Corollas had 2A engines with point ignition meanwhile 1983-1987 E8 4A Corollas had electronical IIA distributor.

So you can upgrade Toyotas IIA electronical igntion distributors easily to European Tercel by basically contacting one wire to 12V supply from power switch and another wire to rev. counter wire if you have a rev. counter.
