Does anyone know what this is?
Hi, guys. New to the forum first post. Hows it going? Have had my tercel for about 4 months. Just got to really start working on it. My step father and I replaced the clutch and we're cleaning out the tank. Anyway we found this piece while working underneath, and it was attached to a pipe on one end. The other end of the pipe didnt go to anything so the whole this was just dead weight. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what it is and if its important or what. My step dad's best guess is something to do with an emissions system. See attachment.

Welcome to the forum, WDM. I haven't seen one of those myself but it looks like part of the 'air suction' emission component. There is a factory service manual available here for download, I suggest getting that and looking up the air suction thing in the emission section. I think it basically just sucks air into the catalytic converter to help burn off pollutants.

Alright thank you. Will do.

David has it right. Air is sucked in passed a reed valve in certain conditions to help pollutants burn in the catalytic converter.
