3ac toyota head bolts for an 81 toyota tercel
Anyone have any ideas on how I can get replacement headbolts for an 81 3AC toyota tercel? Local shops and dealerships say they don't make them anymore and can't get them for me. Is there maybe an exchangeable, crossover headbolt, or another alternative to just junking my car?

How many head bolts do you need?

how are your old head bolts? a long as they look ok, i would just chase the threads and re-use them. don't use anti-seize or anything like that though because it alters torque readings.
welcome to the forum, btw.

welcome to the forum.
all years 3ac head bolts are identical, as the 4ac head bolts as well. these head bolts are hard steel and reusable (unlike all of the newer cars that use disposable bolts that have to be replaced everytime they come out). I have reused my head bolts through some 5 or 6 rebuilds, head gasket changes, etc. they are durable and hold up.
You can get head bolts from any year Toyota 3ac or 4ac engine in any year toyota from a wrecking yard. I and other members on this forum I am sure have head bolts you can have.
What happened to yours? where are you located?

First, what happened to the viewable FSM that used to be here?
Does the engine use belvil (bellville) washers? If not, you could use them under the old bolts in place of the flat washers or lock washers. The should have a thin steel flat washer between them and any aluminum though. They are a bit expensive and you will have to go to an industrial bold and supply company like Fastenall to get them, but they will keep the head clamped down and help prevent a blown head gasket due to mild overheating. They are not reusable so if the old head bolts used them, they must be replaced.

I have never seen one of these head bolts break before. They are pretty durable.
