whoah, weird. I wonder why someone did that. It looks totally out of place, or to me at least.

Funny because I just bought another al25 and keep running into weird, inconsistent choices some previous owner made. Drives me nuts.

Yeah. I'm used to it now but I still want to replace it. I don't know either. Maybe they just wanted a thicker steering wheel? The car is labeled as rebuilt salvage but I don't think the steering wheel could have been damaged without some obvious damage to the outside and that all matches up to appear very much all originally the same car.
Maybe for your car things were done by a succession of owners who didn't think alike? Don't know...

I took the car for a wheel alignment and the toe needed to be adjusted anyway so the fellow centered the steering wheel when he did that so while I've still got an out-of-place steering wheel it's now a centered out-of-place one (:
