New 88 tercel wagon bigger tires

Post by dak_triad »

New to the forum

Just picked up an 88 tercel wagon auto
Had a question about bigger tires
I want to put on A/T tires but am not sure about fit, i was looking at general grabber A/TX 27x8.5r14 with Basset 14x7 wheels. I have a 1.5” lift kit too. Not sure about the offset
Any help would be appreciated

dak,

It really depends on your expected use as well as “fit”. I’ve been running and really like 195/75 R14 (25” dia). The 27” tires will fit with some rub on turns and cut down on articulation (very little on our unibody cars anyhow). The power suck may be an issue for daily driving, as a 27” tire will have a roughly 20% longer circumference.

Thanks man, the smallest A/T tire I could find in a 14” wheel was the 27 at first. Ended up finding 195/75 wrangler A/T’s so I’m going with that.
Thanks again

Sounds good,

I think the 27” tires would daily fine with the 4.1:1 gearing, buy off-roading may be trickier in the slow crawls/climbs. If I didn’t off-road a few times a year, I would step up to the 27”s.

I recently purchased a set of Forceums ATZ-R. They're $280ish on eBay and are definitely worth it.

Those are rad! I ended up getting some 195/75r14 wrangler AT from my buddy who works at a tire shop. I really like them but my problem no is rear shocks, the previous owner installed air shocks which I really liked but with the lift I put on they’re stretched out a little more than I’d like and it bangs around on any big bumps in the road.I have it set at 10psi, any more it bounces around like a carnival ride. So now I need to find different shocks and maybe new springs, I’d actually like it if it was about an inch lower in the back, I need to get a rack and basket to put a spare up top so maybe the weight will bring it down a little
