Carb auxiliary pump vacuum line full of fuel, why?

Post by Familyguy78 »

I just tried to overhaul my carburetor and found no obvious issues besides the vacuum line going to the auxiliary pump was full of fuel. I've been away from mechanical things for a while and cannot figure this out. Anyone had this problem? What do we do to take care of it besides capping it off?

No harm from a ruptured AAP, it just means the manifold has been sucking extra fuel and causing the engine to run rich. Like Rich said, if you bought a carb rebuild kit there should be a new AAP in there. If not, just cap it and the hose that went to it until you can replace it. The AAP supplies extra fuel while the engine is warming up, not a huge deal if it's disabled.

Rock Auto carries the AAP diaphragm for $11.69 each, plus shipping. It's for 1984-88 Corollas but a Forum user has posted that they also fit our T4WD's:

1985 Tercel SR5 4WD wagon, 300K
1987 Tercel DLX 4WD wagon, 6-speed manual, 274K -- got this one running Jan. 2015 (had been sitting for 2 years); this has been my daily driver since 2016
