Cut an access hole ahead of stick shift

Post by 84Sr5wagon »

Just wondering if anyone has ever cut an access hole ahead of the stick shift. This would be for maintenance, and accessing the verse idler plug. Figured I'd patch it up with sheet metal/sheet metal screws, and gasket compound.
Any thoughts?

I have never seen anyone do that, and there would be no reason to. access that plug is not too bad from the tunnel under the car if you just unbolt the rear cross member, and lower the rear of the trans (without removing anything else).
