Looking to buy: Brake Booster and Hub Cap

Post by Toyota »

Hi all! My brake booster isn’t working and was hoping someone might have a used one they could sell me. It’s a 2WD but I think all the wagons use the same one. The part number on mine is 44610-16150. I’m also looking for a hub cap. I’m in PA. Thanks

Where in PA are you? I have a few friends from Greenville (I believe? They're next to Ohio) either way, I would strongly recommend you purchase a 1986 Toyota MR2 booster and master cylinder. It will drastically improve your braking and is a direct swap.
Sadly I just send a car to the crusher literally today with a booster but I don't think it was any good.

I’m in NEPA, Greenville is about 5 hours from me. I’m guessing it’s difficult to find a MR2 master/booster? I’m still needing the booster if anyone else out there has one. Thanks

Toyota,

The MR2 booster may not be much more difficult to find and is likely work it. I found one, but don't have it installed yet as the stock booster is working and there are always other parts of the car needing attention.

the MR2 booster can only be made to work if you up grade to the MR2 master cylinder. the MR2 booster will bolt to the Tercel firewall, but the stock tercel master will not match the booster. it can only be swap out as a set, booster and master together. I highly recommend doing the swap, you get more breaking power with the change.

Thanks! I may just buy the MR2 booster and do the swap. I’d need to find the master as well. Just out of curiosity though how would you get more braking power? Isn’t the limiting factor the calipers and rotors? Or is it more of a better pedal response with the swap?

Toyota,

Yes, better feel to the brakes due to better pedal response.

there are a number of factors, but the MR2 booster is slightly larger dia, and the later ones are double diaphragm (both type of boosters work in the Tercel). the MR2 master has a smaller dia piston, so the ratio of master piston area to brake caliper/wheel cylinder area gets larger, so you have more mechanical advantage. it will deliver more pressure to the calipers vs. the amount of pedal pressure you apply, with slightly larger pedal travel.

with the stock rotors you still risk them overheating on long down hill runs (you correct that by converting to vented front rotors).
