Good to know. I honestly thought I was imagining things with the new shocks. They seemed way stiffer than normal.

Yeah they could use a replacement soon. They're not gone enough to have a bunch of play, yet.
Not sure if the bushings can still be found new.

After my experience with Whiteline products and how they've let their quality slip, there is a reason I didn't mention that brand.

As may be known, the Tercel IS a Corolla, built mostly from Corolla parts, though I do not know specifically which are interchangeable.

Many parts for my wife's former 1991 Corolla fit my 1985 Tercel, for example, which was sometimes convenient.

This comparison of parts for the two models is quite interesting.

Unfortunately, the Toyota parts counter people that I worked with did not know what was interchangeable, even though there were quite a few years that both Corolla and Tercel interchangeable parts were available. When the availability of genuine Toyota 1985 Tercel parts dried up, then aftermarket parts were gone... well you know.

A curiosity would be the last model year of Corolla parts that would fit Tercels 1983-1987 and their availability.

Just musing, not expecting a reply.

Toyota is kind of odd about parts interchangeability, if they get a factory authorization with a "superseded" part number, they will sell it to you. but if you ask for the Tercel part, and it is NLA, and than ask for a part number that is from a corolla, they will tell you they are not "authorized" to sell it to you.

Might be liability or something, but they will not sell it if they know you are going to use it on a different car. the corolla fuel filter for example, for the same year Tercel, can be interchanged. oddly the corolla one is larger and costs less too, but they are not authorized to sell it to you (the metal clip that holds need to be bent a bit to make the larger fuel filter fit). if you ask for TErcel windshield wiper motor, it too is NLA, but the corolla one is identical, except the connector (which you can swap out with your old connector by slipping the contacts out, no alterations needed) I just do not see the hazard in it, but they will tell you they can not sell you the part to install in your tercel. so you have to lie to them for what it is for, if trying to buy dealer parts, which I very rarely do anyway.

I wondered about that. Your explanation makes a lot of sense. Thank you for clarifying this puzzling parts predicament.

I would like longer rear axle links so that I can give the rear tire more clearance

Just mounted mine this evening.

I didn’t lengthen the top arms, but I don’t think the angle change is significant. I also lengthened the rear drive shaft 1”, I pick it up tomorrow. I will post pics after I get the engine back in and get the car out of my small garage.

I purchased the ends off ebay and ordered the steel tube from another vendor. Cut to desired length and welded.

I will add, after a 120 mile drive yesterday, the angle change was enough to cause a harmonic “vibration” I believe (particularly above 60 mph). I pulled the top links to lengthen them and will report back when tested.

Those new arms look great!

Do you think doing something like that with heim joints would be too harsh for daily driving?
There is a shop near me that sells them for a good price so I've been considering it, plus it could have the advantage of being adjustable.

The only experience I have with solid bushings is with my old Corolla XRS motor mounts (RIP)

I've not seen heim joints with a bushing, but maybe it's out there. Each new end is threaded, so these are adjustable in length. That way I can fine tune for different suspension set ups or run them all the way in, back to stock length.
