On USDM Tercels, the carb mixture screw is under a soft iron plug in the cast iron base of carb assembly (next to the throttle plate). it is set at the factory, than plugged off, it is not intended to be "tampered" with by us mere car owners, thanks to the Federal regulations. Since are cars are now exempt, you can remove the plug and get to the adjuster screw. There is actually a maintenance manual procedure in the FSM for removing the plug, cleaning the adjustment screws, and than setting the mixture properly.

Realize this only affects the mixture at idle, and just past idle.

the plug was removed when i got it, has already been tampered with, and she definitely doesn't idle right, and appears damaged.

i'm kind of an exhaust my resources of tangible info before i ask questions because i'm still not certain type.
though i appreciate the reiteration because you never know. i am very much aware of this information.

i would like to know how to be certain i am looking at the same screw if i purchase one, and if anyone has had luck finding them.

i am also interested in what would entail it being damaged beyond use.

if it is damaged from it getting overtightend than i think it should still adjust okay. perhaps fuel flow will not be as smooth over an adjusting screw that has a ridge worn into it by bottoming it into the seat. if it has a a sharp ridge on it, you might try carefully making it smooth with a file or fine sand paper. that should allow the fuel to flow more smoothly through the jet.
