Fuel related issue

Post by NWMO »

Hello all,

Just as I was coming into town this evening, I heard an odd noise and the car started to miss/run rough. When I got home I popped the hood and took a look. If I am correct, it looks like the rubber hose between the evap cannister and the “outlet vent control valve” has melted. Raw fuel is on top of the evap cannister and is leaking from the lower part of the carburetor as well. Here are some pics.

TIA for suggestions. Sorry for not digging more, but I wanted to get something posted before dinner.

I should add that after parking, carrying my lunch box in and retrieving a flashlight, I removed the air filter and looked down the carb. The “upper” jet in the carb was burping fuel minutes after being turned off. Based on the carb leaking, I assume it was being flooded while running?

Alrighty,

I got the evap cannister, VSV & EVSV off. The VSV does not appear to be functioning. I tried plugging the two pieces back in, but it was still idling very rough. Called it a night.

I’m going to check timing next and keep plugging away.

Hello all,

So, I have checked the VSV as well as the outer vent control valve and both are working well. I also checked the VSV off my parts car and it tested good as well. I have tried to test the evap cannister by blowing through it and while I can blow a little through, it is very difficult. Hopefully using the air compressor as indicated in the FSM will help.

My mistake in the initial test of the VSV was plugging it back in for the test. However, I neglected to ground the VSV and I am confident that invalidated the initial test.

I checked both VSVs with the ohm meter and they are within spec. Hoping to blow out the canister tomorrow and get ready to put back together.
