Alternate transmission mount

Post by JDNightFox »

Ebay is saying that the Westar EM-8377 transmission mount fits our 4wd transmissions

has anyone tried one out to see if that's true? Or does someone have a transmission mount to compare to the picture? It looks kind of like it but i'm not sure

if you get a 4wd one use a fwd one,,cut the side flat bar off the old 4wd one and weld it to the fwd one,,i used the 9 dollar one from rockauto

Interesting

I don't have access to a welder so I won't be able to do that though

I was going to try this, but once I got the 2WD and 4WD mounts side by side, I decided that they have enough differences that cutting and rewelding the mounting tab wasn't going to be a satisfactory solution for me. The two mounts will both have the transmission sitting at different heights above the crossmember and even if you cut and tweak one mounting ear, the geometry of the rest of the "cradle" is still going to be off.

I found a low-mileage replacement 4wd mount (OEM Toyota sticker was still on it!) on a wagon in the junkyard, so never had to come up with a permanent aftermarket solution.

A small cheap-o welder is a worthwhile investment if you like owning old and rare things like tercels.

I don't have the 4WD mount that I pulled off to show the differences I saw, but the "U" shape was different enough that even cutting and welding that tab, the other half of the "U" wouldn't be touching the transmission.
