where is the charcoal canister located 4WD wagon ?

Post by Dumindu »

My car is a 1987 Toyota Tercel DX Wagon RHD 1452cc manual driven car.

1. Where is the charcoal canister located in my car?

2. What happens if the charcoal canister is deleted?

It's behind the Carb, if you're looking at the engine bay from the top, it'd be top left.

if someone removed it from your car, it should run okay without it as long as your fuel tank is vented. its only function is to prevent fuel vapors from leaking into the air, without it the vapors vent to the atmosphere like all cars used to before required emission controls.

I do not think so, but the tank does need to be vented. if not, in hot weather the engine will flood from pressurized fuel tank (resulting in poor economy).

Also, look for vac leaks, and that your AAP diaphragm is not leaking fuel.

Thank you very much for your valuable advice.

I am having poor fuel economy for couple of days. No leak could found even with the UV dye test. No leak could found in the petrol pump (towards the engine). Carburetor fuel economy seems good with separate bottle line.

Petrol tank lid rubber seal is distorted with gas pressure. Previously such thing couldnt observe. When open the lid there is a "shhh" noice.

If it is really hot the fuel economy will go down the drain on these old cars.

What are the sites at which fuel tank ventilation happens in Tercel 4WD wagon?

Three lines coming from the fuel tank, fuel to fuel pump, fuel from fuel pump back to fuel tank, and a line to the charcoal canister.

From which sites of these lines, the ventilation (check valve) happens/located?

Dumindu,

If I'm not mistaken, the tank vents through the charcoal canister and I don't believe there is a check valve, just an open line from the tank, through the canister.
