BTW, that does seem a bit high for resistance on the cap, but the ignition system has a built in resistor to prevent radio static. That might be part of the system, you have to check another cap.

The spindle is indeed jiggly. No idea where I would get the bearing when I take it apart.

I cannot be immobilized for longer than a day in any given area here.

And now I am unable to get it started again.

Anyone want a tercel before it gets towed

If no one here has one for you, I might be able to source one from a junkyard here and ship it to you, given that the distributor is the root of your problem.

The sooner the better. Have to be in Santa Barbara in the next few days.

This is my 7th car in 3 years so.... would love to actually finish fixing one up all the way before I find myself stranded again begging up the cash for another car

Fastenal is open for another 4 hours.

Anyone know the bearing specifications for the dizzy spindle?

A list of cars with the same dizzy would be useful to. Doesn't seem to be any tercels in the yards nearby

All corrolla's with the 4ac use the same distributor.

find the thread on rebuilding the distributor in this forum, I think it lists the bearings and seals you need, they are standard items that a bearing suppler can cross reference and sell you (typically they are about $4 each, there are 2 as I recall).

Yes... I've been looking for that distributor thread for a couple days now.

Lots of threads referencing it. But no links to it. Not on the 7 pages of repair guides. Not under the search distributor rebuild.

Only 138 pages (2069 hits) up for distributor....might be searching for another couple days. I don't know. Anyone actually seen it recently?

I could not find it either, perhaps it got misplaced when the server was migrated over. I found these that might be useful:

I did see that post. And others. I'll be sure to pay attention to the spindle orientation if there is a discrepancy in the fsm.

Still digging for those bearing specs

There was Also this post
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=8731&hilit=Distributor

Not much there though

Also there is no mention of disassembly of the governor shaft from the bearings in the fsm. Just replacement of the dizzy if failure is found.

Got to watch the car in front of me get towed this morning. They where just trying to fix a flat tire for 3 days.

I guess there's nothing quite like car problems in tow happy areas to help you sleep at night
