aisin carburetor part number?
Hi all - I have a 1984 tercel wagon with the 3a engine - but the carb is toast. Does anyone know the part number for this carb? thanks!

The part number that ends in 15340 is the most common.

Pretty much any carb from 83-86 (and 87-88 wagons) will work, you may just have to adjust what vacuum lines plug in where.

I'll be the first to ask... How do you know the carb is toast? sometimes its hard to know for sure
i usually swap carb with spare known good one to find out
some symptoms i have had that seemed to be carb
assuming all vac lines are correct
blaas out when stepping on the gas (turned out to be a few drops of water in carb)(once it was the ball bearing at bottom of accelerator pump that had popped out)
AAP diaphram leaking (just needs new diaphragm or disconnect vac hose and plug both hose and port)
bad gas mileage
excessive flooding
carb is very dirty inside
will not idle (this is most common thing thing has happened to me)
rebuild kits range from 15.00 to 40.00
there is a video on youtube for taking apart and putting back together

Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

none of those kits look correct for the '83-'87 Tercel wagon, at least as pictured. kind of pricy too.
Do you have the '88 Tercel4wd wagon, or it is an '88 tercel sedan/hatch with the transverse engine? those have a completely different carb and engine installation than the 4wd wagon of the same year. you have to be careful what you order.
the one in the link from Rockauto is the correct kit for the 4wd wagon, occasionally they go on sale for much less money.

also, critically important: make sure you actually need a carb rebuild. a vacuum leak in the many hoses, or even mistrouted vac lines, will make it run badly and appear it needs a carb. Get the vac diagram for your car and trace each line from end to end (I run my finger on it so I do not get mixed up), inspect it for cracks or leaks, that is is connected, and going to the correct location. Many times I have found someone's tercel with vac lines misrouted, ran like crap, they claimed only a "professional mechanic" has worked on it...sure it was.
they are fairly durable and reliable carbs, usually I find that if I just (carefully!) remove the top cover on the carb, and clean it out, and put it back together, it will run fine. There are a number of adjustments that are also necessary so it runs good. adjustment procedure in the FSM.
