Would half a mm (.51mm or .02") difference in overall diameter lead to disaster?

Wow, that's an old quote of mine. I now hate 185/80r13's.

To answer your question, half a mm would be just fine. You won't notice a difference.

Dredging up this thread as I'm now shoe shopping. Found some 90s Speedlines I like but unsure of size/offset/hub stuff. I've never bought rims for any of my vehicles.

Anyway, the wheels I am interested in are 14x6 +38 4x100 with a 58mm hub bore and have 185/60s on them. Anyone have experience with an Ohtsu tire?

Looks like Ohtsu is owned by Falken tires, who generally make high quality products. If the tires are 5 years or older (google tire date codes on how to check) then I would recommend replacing them, otherwise if they have good tread they should be fine.
For what it's worth, my favorite all around tire is the General RT43, good tread life, a little more aggressive tread pattern for some mild off roading, and reasonably priced in the sizes you'll typically put on a Tercel wagon.

Seen a few Ohtsu's. I would NEVER sell or use them. Hardly any siping going on from what I've seen. Better than shot tires but that's not saying much. If they are part of a used rim combo, I would place zero value in the rubber unless they are brand new. But then you would have to live with them for quite a while.

This Ohtsu looks familiar and would scare the crap out of me in the winter, even when new. https://cdn.discounttiredirect.com/prod ... hh2.xl.jpg

These are the lowest priced tires I offer, having some waffle sipes scores some extra points-https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.js ... Solus+TA11

I concur on the RT43's. I've sold more of those than any other tire. Ohtsu's are Oh-no's for me and anyone who cares what I think.

Thanks y'all...now when I make an offer, I'll tell him to keep the rubber!

Will that wheel size fit my T4 wagon?

that wheel and tire size should fit fine. that is what I have on my daily driver, stock suspension tercel4wd . I only get a very minor and slight rub on the front left wheel when I bottom it out. a little work with some padded pliers on the inner fender lip solved that.

I had bought Faulken tires once when I got some good 14" alloy wheels to put on my daily driver. The price seemed good and they were promoted as a performance all season tire, the tread pattern looked racy as well. I thought I was getting a great tire at a decent price. Good wet weather preformace is critical in these parts, but found it was marginally acceptable on wet road ways. The low profile larger and wider tires actually had poorer performance than the stock skinny tires. I thought I could live with it because of the much lower price, but than found they wore out in only about 30,000 miles, about half what I got with better quality tires, even the skinny stock sized ones. I calculated the cost per mile and found it was no bargain, given the rather poor performance, I decided I would never buy them again.

I replaced them with some fairly costly Michelin all season performance tires 185/60x14 as I recall. not only was performance on both dry and wet roads greatly improved (improving safety and handling), but they actually cost less per mile to operate.

There is no economy when you buy economy priced tires.

If you get the tires at no extra cost with the wheels, I might consider using them until they need to be replaced (if not sooner), but they are not worth paying anything for them.

Yeah, they're a wheel/tire combo. They're @ 95% so if I get them, I'd probably just drive them a little while till Costing has a tire special or something.

I feel the same way about tires. Buying quality is the way to go.

I'm excited to see the difference some 14s make now that I got my engine purring nicely.

14" inch alloy wheels will make a noticeable difference. I did not realize how flexy those stock steel wheels are until I drove several Tercel4wd across the country, one with factory 13" alloys, and the other with the stock steel wheels. even the 13" alloy you can tell the steering was more responsive. 14" alloy wheels, with tires sized so the rolling dia is about the same, is even better since there is less tire side wall to flex.

I think it is one of the single largest improvement you can make to the handling of the Tercel4wd, and it is easy to do too. That is assuming the rest of the suspension is in good condition, nothing you do will fix bad bushings or worn out tie rod ends, ball joints, etc. so make sure you get those all fixed too if necessary.
