I'm getting noise on the right front ( only) when I hit small ( or large bumps). Has anyone had this problem? If not, what would be the most comon cause of this. I was thinking a broken strut, but I really have no idea. Any sugestions would be great.

It sounds like a loose front strut. The only way to check it to to remove the strut.

The rack bushing on that side will make a clicking noise mostly when going over rougher ground at low speeds....this is the bushing inside the end of the rack. Have to loosen the inside clamp on the boot and check for sideways play.

It could be a ball joint, inner tie rod end, outer tie rod end, or play in the front wheel bearing.

This is just happening on bad roads, chuck holes, bumpy roads. My steering is tight, and tread ware seems to be normal. i'm thinking replace the struts, and go from there.

I think Takza has it right...
To check it, lay under the car and with the palm of your hand give a firm wack to the tie rod where it enters the rack boot. If you get a clunking noise you have found the culprit. It is a plastic (nylon, I think) bushing and is very inexpensive.

With the manual rack it's a metal bushing and good old Toyota wants around $22 for it...they sold me a plastic one that didn't fit...it was around $7?

Mine only has about .003" play in it, but makes a knocking noise off road on rough ground in warm weather. Can use some axle grease on the rack under the boot to help this some...doesn't fix it though.

I went under the wagon and wacked the stabilizer bar ( with the palm of my hand) and got the a metal to medal sound. I think this may be it. Does this sound about right?

If you are clear down to metal on metal....that would be it. Need to make sure that the threaded end of the bar is not worn too much...otherwise it's a matter of replacing the bushing set on the ends of the bar....there is a writeup on this...

I am getting something similar now. I did the struts last night, and now get a clunking sound out of the front right wheel when I go over bumps. I'll update again tonight.

I love this car.

My girlfriend went to OSU (Oregon State) and is a big-time Beaver Fan. GO BEAVS! Anyhoo, I want to paint the car a different color, but it would need to match the tan plaid interior. She recommended painting it Beaver Orange with black trim. Any thoughts on the easiest and cheapest way to do that without having it look like kaka?

Make sure the top spring perch (strut mount) is tightened properly and slid down on the top of the strut piston properly. I had the same noise when I did my struts, and it turned out that my top strut mount had not seated properly on top of the piston and was banging up and down when pressure was momentarly relieved from it.
