Clutch slipping?

Post by Dumindu »

My car is a Toyota Tercel 1987 4WD 1452CC DX Wagon.

In my car after an engine repair (where clutch cable detached and re-connected), agears on the stopped car can be shifted without depressing the clutch.

Also car stops when going to move the car.

Is it a sign of a slipping ?

If so, can it be corrected by release the tension on clutch cable?

If they pulled the engine they probably messed something up with the clutch or throwout bearing. Slippage usually happens in higher gears. The fact that you can shift without depressing the clutch pedal tells me something got messed up or installed wrong
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

Check clutch cable connection in engine compartment at fire wall to make sure it is inserted into fire wall correctly. It could be hung up there or at engine under the distributer \ over starter. That could make cable wire too tight

if your clutch is not fully engaging, which would allow you to shift it without using the clutch pedal, that could be why you have no power to climb hills. clutch is not fully engaged.

though that would not make it spit out of the carb, that would be caused by something else, likely timing.
