Today I was talking to my classmate about my future production and he told me that a movie about the AE86 was made. I haven't seen it but I would like to see it. It sounds like a drifting competition or something, anyone else heard about this movie? Its real title is: Tau man chi D.

Eventually, the world will see the mighty glory of the AL25 Toyota Tercel 4WD wagon!

They made both an anime movie, and a huge anime TV series in Japan. It was a very very popular series. Unfortunetely, it has meant a lot of young wannabe 'drifters' have bought the now somewhat rare AE86 Trueno and wrecked them. They have also made a bit of a bad name for the car.

The movie is great though, I do recommend it. You can pick it up at a lot of DVD movie stores now. Make sure you get the MOVIE though, not one of the TV Series ones.

AE86's are great cars.

Yep, I just read that Toyota specially built 3 of the AE86 Truenos for this movie and one was wrecked. Unfortunately, in order to have action you have to crash, break, or blow something up.

Yes, I agree those AE86 cars are truly great... even though I haven't been in one, but they came with the 4A-C :) , well at least the SR5s, right?

The base model was a 4A-C. The GTS (right?) came with the 16valve 4AGE. Not a whole lot more impressive than the 4AC except for its revvability. The 4AC reds the same as our beasties, while the 4AGE sits around 7500RPM for its red (or was it 8k for the 16v).
The AE86 is very very well balanced vehicle.

Initial D- A show in which a bold man driving a AE86 drifting machine takes on all comers and leaves them dead in the dust.

As far as I know, its only ever been an anime. Never live action. Maybe they made another AE86 show, because itd be funny to see Toyota "Make" an anime AE86.

I too heard Initial D was pretty good.

Too bad, because mine is going to be ALL live action!! I've seen a few videos of AE86's doing driftings and even a 360! These cars are very maneuverable.

Have you ever driven anything powered by a 4AGE? I've driven two MKI MR2s and a Corolla FX16 GTS. I found the 4AGE to be very different and very impressive compared to most "normal" engines, including the 3AC and 4AC. The block might be similar, but that Yamaha head makes a huge difference. :D

Exactly what I was going to say!! I couldn't agree more. There is a HUGE difference between the 4AC/4AGE driving experience.

There has been an Anime Initial-D movie out for a few years now. They have just recently made an actual filmed Initial-D movie. I recommend the Anime one; can't comment on the filmed one as I have not seen it yet.

I was referring to the power specs. I can't comment on drivability.

Maybe driving experience is the wrong term. The 4age accelerates the AE86 hella faster than a 4ac. It does far more than its power specs would lead a person to believe.

It IS a great driving experience too though! :D
