My car is a Toyota Tercel 1987 4WD 1452CC DX Wagon. It has a Aisen 14120 2 BL Carburetor.
I have disassembled the carb for a quick repair. Upper Gasket was damaged while I was disassembling.
Since I dont need to replace any other component, buying a repair kit is unnecessary.
I imagined to make a gasket form tyre tube and applying PVC gum on it to prevent absorption of gas. Drying out of gum doesnt affect for the flexibility and for the cusioning and also the surface contour.
Would this be working?

Re: Gasket from tire tube and PVC gum
you can buy gasket paper and cut one out. I would also think that using gasoline resistant sealer, such as "Form-a-gasket" from Permatex would also work, no paper gasket needed.
Many rubber compounds break down in gasoline, depends on the formulation. I would not use an inner tube in a carb unless I knew it was gasoline resistant. It likely is not.

Re: Gasket from tire tube and PVC gum
Here in local market, Gaskets are only available with repair kits. So I will have make a gasket from a paper.
After difficult search in local market for a gasket paper, I found this.
Original Gasket is of 0.8 mm. But this is 1 mm. It was the only available one.
They told it is a packing paper and being used to make gasket. I matched the original gasket paper with this. Material is matching.
I have paper cutters and hole punctures of different sizes (Kit) and I have already cut a a gasket smoothly from car tyre inner tube. So I can cut the gasket smoothly.
The problem now exist is whether the thickness become a problem. 1 mm for 0.8 mm.
Please advice me.

Re: Gasket from tire tube and PVC gum
I do not think it will matter. the original gasket may be compressed from being in the carb for 30 plus years.
If you are concerned you can take fine sand paper and a flat plate and "wear" away the extra thickness. not so hard if you "glue" the gasket to a flat hard surface like a counter top, thick peice of glass, tile, etc. and than sand it down with another flat surface backing up the sandpaper, also glued to the sanding surface. use some kind of tacky glue that you can pull it off the surface without damage to the gasket.
Good luck.
