WHAT - WHAT!
Where is Maybellene by the immortal Chuck Berry? http://video.search.yahoo.com/search/vi ... rush-mailc
This is regarded as one of THE seminal R&R songs! This came out in the Summer before my sophomore HS year.
And how about The Little Nash Rambler by the Playmates? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4W7oZBhAJg
This came out in my HS senior year... Of course, since I once owned a '67 Rambler (3 on the tree), I am prejudiced a tad...
Tom M.

OK - Full disclosure here...Chuck Berry is from St. Louis; in fact, a bigger-than-life statue of him was just unveiled yesterday in the Delmar Loop entertainment area, near the Blueberry Hill saloon, where he STILL appears monthly!
T4WD augury?
"Oh, do not ask, 'What is it?' Let us go and make our visit."
T.S. Eliot - "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock"
"Now and then we had a hope that, if we lived and were good, God would permit us to be pirates."

This will be interesting to see what people's musical leaning are.

My own 10 at the moment:
Jump Into the Fire - Harry Nilsson
Drivin' Across America - Mark Germino
Radartown - Mark Germino
Cooksferry Queen - Richard Thompson
(Wish I Could Fly Like) Superman - The Kinks
Trip to Roswell, NM - Joe West and the Sinners
Living in the Future - John Prine
Vicious - Lou Reed
Bales of Cocaine - The Reverend Horton Heat
Voodoo Cadillac - Southern Culture on the Skids

+pretty much any Tom Petty.

area these songs about cars, or about driving, or just fun to listen to while driving?

what about Hot Rod Lincoln?

I love the Johnny Cash song about the guy that works in the Cadillac factory and built himself a Cadillac one part at a time..."A '57, 58, 59, 60,...Cadillac" like my Tercel which is a "'83, 84, '85, '86, '87 Tercel4wd!"
'87 Tercel 4wd SR5 (current engine swap project)
'84 Tercel 4wd (daily driver, with on going mods)
'92 Mazda MPV 4wd (wife's daily driver)
'85 Tercel 4wd DLX auto(daughter's daily driver)
'01 Honda Civic (other daughter's daily driver)

i'm very happy with these. SCOTS are sadly neglected, they were a really fun band. and tom petty is a living legend. chuck berry is rad too, tom. way to rep the good ol' days.

i think anything by the cult is probably my fave driving music.

Never heard of Rusty Chevrolet - funny! Was Red Green the lyricist - or maybe the videographer?

Incidentally, Maybellene (the song) is not spelled with an "i"; after almost 60 years, I finally discovered the truth.

I should have recalled Hot Rod Lincoln; it was out when I was barely in HS. Interesting Wiki story on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_Rod_Lincoln

Dead Mans Curve reminded me of a half-car, half-train, song from my era - Teen Angel.

David - We could start our own forum as fans of tercels and haters of the Eagles.

Keith - Which version of Hot Rod lincoln? Commander Cody's is my personal favorite.

Ahhh.. Da Yoopers, there is some great music.

I had enough songs about car woes for a whole cd in my car once upon a time.

Remember all those songs...

Dead Mans Curve...

A couple of real gear heads way back when.... in high school got themselves done in on the local dead mans curve....they drove some souped up stuff...while I drove my parents cars.

I must agree with this.

I live in Oregon, have worked on farms and still continue to, and I hate modern country music. Really. Anything in the last 15 years or so is pretty much garbage.

But for driving songs it really boils down to what time of day it is, what road you're driving, and your attitude/mood.

This is one of my favorites: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZ_E-7cN8fA
