That's the price you have to pay for increased safety. But I'm saying if you swap in a more modern engine to an older (and lighter) car, you'll have better mileage than with the old car and old engine design.
But...did you try hitting it with a hammer?

Here was my land yacht 1970 Sedan deville(not actual car) the second longest caddy ever @ 18.75 ft.
What a car 120mph with one finger on the steering wheel just floating along

My Daughter's middle name is DeVille because she was born in the passanger seat of a caddy along the highway here in Reno :oldgeek:

MPG HAHAHA

yes! and often more power too. best of all is you can eliminate that pesky carburetor! this has actually been a popular trend in restoring classic cars, do "bolt on" upgrades to make them better daily drivers (so it can be returned back to "original" if so desired), but install modern brakes, EFI engines, even transmissions, seats, etc. It seems a worthwhile thing to do if you want to actually drive your classic, rather than just trailer it around to car shows.

I have thought about what pre-1973 car I would want to own, and build it up with modern parts and systems (unrestricted from most regulations!). But I could not think of any I wanted that much, a modern Porsche boxer is a much nicer car than a more costly bath-tub Porsche (I used to own one many years ago). I was really tempted recently when I saw a boxer convertible with relatively low miles on it for only $7000!

we had owned a one ton ford E350 van (same mechancials as the F350 pickup truck), it has the ford 351 efi engine and a 4 spd auto trans, it got a remarkable 13 mpg on the highway on trips, even between 11 and 12 towing a travel trailer.

Those big caddies got about 7 to 8 mpg, a little better on trips, about 10 mpg as I recall.
