I just had to share this here where it might be appreciated.
My buddy has a JDM landcruiser diesel and he takes it into an area called the ghost for ice climbing trips. You need a good vehicle to get in there and there are some creek crossings. I have driven this thing and it is a TANK. Cool to see what it can do.

it worked! very hairy indeed. as much as i love tercels and corollas, i don't think one would make it through that.
the music in that clip is godawful though, sounds like natalie imbruglia. barf

Yes, that music is bad. But what's worse is that you could play name that tune and actually might know what it is. Oh, well now I know what CD to get you for xmas next year.
I was thinking how the tercel, or my van, would do in that scenario. Would not be pretty. The van might have a chance. I think those tires are magic or something. Surprised he did not put chains on beforehand.
Craig's landcruiser is pretty cool. He has an engine heater and interior heater that runs on diesel for winter trips where he can't plug in. I would consider putting one of those in the Delica at some point.

Re: JDM Toyota Landcruiser ice driving in the ghost
A Tercel4wd could do that no problem if it has over sized studded snow tires, and perhaps a lift to give it more ground clearance. It might have be light enough not to break through the surface.
The only time I have gotten the tercel stuck is when it high centers or something drags on the frame, lifting its weight off the tires. I think if I ever wanted to build up a swap whamper Tercel I would adapt some air struts to all four corners to raise the Tercel up to the top of its travel to be able to crawl through stuff like that when needed.
