My Tercel Stolen

Post by john »

My '85 is gone. Who the hell steals a 30 year old station wagon. I am way past upset. Really love that car. Shit.

I suspect:

bloody crackers jackin' cars

or maybe some misguided youts needed an easy-picking reliable go-anywhere transportation to haul their stolen goods to a pawn shop over in the next county.

in all seriousness, that's too bad. hope you recover it.

I appreciate the encouragement and the chuckle... needed a good laugh. I spent a few minutes today installing an alarm in my Honda Odyssey. Now that it is my only vehicle, I have to at least attempt to protect it. Will also put in a kill switch tomorrow. Sure wish I had done that for my Tercel. Fresno is the car theft crapitol of the world.

there have been other threads on this Forum about stolen T4WD's...

my sympathies... I can relate, because my first T4WD (an '87 SR5 that I acquired in 2004) was stolen while visiting Oakland, CA just before Christmas in 2008... it was recovered about 6 weeks later in an industrial area of Oakland, totally stripped of all usable parts

at the time, one of the insurance reps I talked to said that the 1983-88 Tercel wagons were among the top 10 older vehicles targeted by car thieves in the Bay Area

Got my Baby back!!!! The cops called today with good news. My car was found about 8 miles from here! They gave me 30 minutes to pick her up or have her towed. Got there with time to spare. She is back in the driveway...dripping a little oil once again! No damage done. I'm so happy!!!!!!!!! Two tool boxes were gone of course, along with lots of camera gear (I'm a portrait photographer). The camera equipment is covered by insurance... the tools are not. Lucky that my most often used tools were in my other car! Tonight I install a kill switch. john

HOO-RAY!
It's surprising that there was no damage.
I will say, however, that it seems pretty horsey on the part of the LEOs to demand that the car be collected within 30 minutes or you would be facing a rip-off towing bill; after all. it's not like you left the car on the side of the road following a breakdown.

I agree, but that's what the goons have been turned into...fund raisers.

Good news on the return.

good to hear your ride is back home safe and sound. Over 80 percent of all stolen cars are recovered (too hard to sell after it gets reported), but not always in drivable condition, you lucked out.

I had the same thing once with a stolen car, it was not clear to me when they called that I had to go recover the car when they called, I thought they were telling me I can get it out of impound, rather they were saying come now or it will be impounded. I went the next day and had to pay the impound fee, the tow fee and deal with the idiot impound yard employees who were stealing parts off my classic Porsche (which they denied of course).

The new America is: get hardwired into the system so you can capitalize on others misfortunes and hardships...it's really as simple as that.

My buddy lives in Maryland. If you break down on the interstate there, it's LAW that the tow company who has the contract with the local fundraisers (government) tows you, even if you have (and pay dearly for) your own premium service such as AAA. Of course since that makes it compulsory (like Obama-care) they can charge you almost anything they feel like (because the true free market isn't driving down the price with choices and competition)

Once the government gets involved, forget anything you thought was fair, rational, or making sense.

Let's privatize all first responders and the FAA and the FDA and the air traffic controllers and hire mercenaries instead of the Armed Forces (I'm sure Academi, nee XE Services, nee infamous Blackwater, would be happy to oblige)! Let's have all toll roads - sell the Interstates!
Yeah!
