I think these were called "Prairie" in the US. This is the car I was actually looking for when I found my Tercel years ago. It's basically a shorter version of the Tercel with a sliding door on the side and a 2-liter engine. I'm glad I got the Tercel instead because of the better fuel economy.

Re: Nissan Multi
man, i haven't seen a 4wd multi since my bud's mom got rid of hers. i occasionally see the 2wd versions but never these. i am on the same page as you on them, mark. they're really odd and ugly but neat enough that i'm always fascinated when i see them. i love the van-style sliding rear passenger doors. my friends called the rear seats 'ampitheater seating' because of the room back there. ultimately though, their mileage sucked.
i thought they were called the stanza in the US but i'm not sure.
what does that bumper sticker say?? i can't make it out. "______ decide who is right, only who's left"

Re: Nissan Multi
what does it mean? is it about political right/left or is it sort of like a "kill them all and let god sort them out" sentiment? i'm leaning towards the latter but really have no idea.

Re: Nissan Multi
Sounds like a wild west thing
We googled it and saw a bunch of "war doesn't decide who's right, only who's left"

Re: Nissan Multi
They were sold in the US as the Stanza Wagon, also available in both fwd and 4wd. Not a bad little 4wd, and back when Nissan was still making a good engine. I always thought the sliding door was kind of odd, like a minivan, but it was much larger than a swing open door. Some family friends that had small children about the same age as ours had one, and it was WAY easier to load a child's car seat into the back, in fact it was brilliant. Way better than our honda civic (which in fact prompted us to sell our civic hatchback, even though it was a great car, it was just too much troulbe to load a bulky car seat in and out all the time). I still see them around here occasionally, but again the Tercel4wd is far more common and popular.

Re: Nissan Multi
I was pulling wrenches at a Nissan dealer when they were new.
I thought they were amazing, wanted a 4WD one till I found out the nasty complications of the driveline (pull engine to replace starter, among other silly things)
A buddy of mine in BC has (had??) a fwd one back when I lived there, he loved it for the lack of pillars too.
Being a quadriplegic, it was easier for him to swing his chair into the backseat.
