After trying a few things to get the air filter to seal well vs the housing...including re-glueing the rubber gaskets...I finally removed the gasket on the top half of the housing (it wouldn't stay put) and used thin foam tape on the air filter itself...top & bottom to get a good seal.

I coated the housing inside with oil...a very light coat...so the foam wouldn't stick.

Also some grease under the washer under the wingnut in the center.

Added a label to the top of the housing reminding the dummy to only tighten the wingnut one turn after contact....I've been crushing the filter.

I also mark the filter at the arrow on the inlet so that if it gets warped...it can be put back in the same way.

You might think this is a big tado about nothing.....but over time dust and grit can trash an engine.

hey Thereminator...you're back.....? They let you go? :D B)

If you want cold air you can just undo & plug the vac line to the heat door? I've tried it over the summer and couldn't tell much difference.

My car runs real strong at around 50F though...just need to set the AC up to cool the intake air.

There is a snorkel assembly for the DGV Weber...
K&N stock it, from memory...

So I did the whole weatherstripping thing on the top of the filter... Got it tight enought to hold her down... Then over the course of 2 or 3 omnths, the retainer bolt stripped!
DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN! It may be tempting to try and get a good squish on the weatherstripping to get a good seal, but this can and will trash the bolt that holds the filter cover down! DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN!

I stripped mine long ago...and then found a nylon wingnut to replace it.

Also made a label for the top of the air cleaner saying "tighten only one turn"....this is after contact.

I was snugging the darned thing down too much and ruining the seal and crushing the filter.

I just stole the bolt off of my other carb.
My issue was that the damned nut keeps coming loose, so I'd cinch it to where it'd stay. Then she stripped. Never did actually crush a filter though.....
