My friends new 87 is too hot(inside) he says.

Post by splatterdog »

Got a hot tip here, no pun intended. Well maybe. During my friends transition from the 84 to the 87, the seats and carpet needed replacing. Now this 87 used to be emmahumpfritters, and he reported the heat wasn't too bad. I'm pretty sure that was relative to other T4's. But, before the carpet went back in the whole floor was lined with Reflectix http://www.reflectixinc.com/basepage.as ... eIndex=622 Or as i like to call it, space blanket bubble wrap. Then door vapor barriers were replaced with, you guessed it, more reflectix.

Let me tell you, this car cooks. Maybe retains is a better term but the end result is impressive. My friend is one who usually only knows one heat setting- hot as possible. Now, at least on any decent length drive , he says fan setting one is too much. Even in single digits. I felt it myself the last time we got out to "the farm". My 85 would have been cranked the whole way there and still not been as warm.

I also see it keeping underbody temps and hot pavement heat outside the car in the summer too.

I foresee some interior removal in my near future.

I have seen that stuff before, where do you get it? Do hardware stores carry it or is it mail order only?

Just about any building supplies store should have it. It's about $30-40 for a 4x25 foot roll. Smaller sizes are available too, at least in my market. Also, I don't think "Reflectix" is the only brand of this insulation.

Any sound deadening capabilities? It's much lighter than Dynamat which also helps retain heat but is mostly know for sound deadening.

Never thought about using it in a car but guessing insulated Mylar is an awesome choice since it works so well for emergency blankets.
