Well, thanks again to Larry "The Man", he has helped me get the last of my clutch questions answered and I have everything reinstalled except engine oil, trans oil, 2 cotter pins, finish connecting the cat air tube, frame braces, starter, air cleaner, and splash guard.

I will tell you what 4 days on a clutch job will do to person. When I was struggling to remember how certain brackets and accesories went back on, I wasn't even thinking about the fact that only 20ft away from me sits my '87. A complete reference and spare parts rig right in front of me. I will jack up the '87 tomorrow so I can reference and steal a couple of bolts that for some reason I can't find. Minor bracket bolts at least.

I am in the home stretch but have run completely out of money for anything. I need to buy fluids so I can actually drive TURTCEL, but I am looking at probably a week of tips at the coffee shop to afford fluids and daily life in general. A real heartache to just see her sitting there and there is nothing I can do about getting her on the road any quicker.

Like they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder....and boy do I love my Terc. Through all the pain and frustration when all is said and done, I am good with having the experience now. Just hope the oil pan doesn't leak, would suck to have to get into that job next.

Well, I finally made enough money in tips to buy TURTCEL her blood transfusion. I will be filling the trans and engine oil in just a few mins. This is the moment of truth for my clutch job. I can honestly say I am a little nervous.

Possible oil pan leak could come up at the rear main seal housing and the clutch feels totally different from my old one. Very smooth and not as stiff of a pedal.

At first I was worried that the clutch felt inactive but I have talked witha few people now and they have told me that is normal till seated. Everything is nice and lubed including my clutch cable so I am sure these factors play a roll.

I will report back as soon as I have checked it all out. Thanks to all who have helped me get to this point finally, couldn't have done it without you guys.

does it fire but not start, crank but not fire, or fail to even crank?

a few stupid easy mistakes i have made are having the plug wires mixed up, and not having the dizzy plugged in—the dizzy has its own green electrical plug so no plug, no power to the dizzy. those are the first things i think of when i've messed around and have a crank but no fire situation.

I can get it to pop out the tail pipe only one time on initial try. I even have my '87 which runs with the dizzy at #1 TDC and 0* on the crank and timing mark. They look to be in the identical spot.

My friend that helped me put the dizzy in last time in coming over in an hour to help me. TURTCEL should be live and well soon.

The green plug for the dizzy is plugged in and the wires are all correct. It is not that I don't have spark, it is that it won't fire off and start running. It sounds like timing is off but I can't see any other way to set the dizzy in that would be "different and correct".

timing off by 360*? could the #1 piston been at TDC of its exhaust stroke rather than compression stroke? put your thumb over the spark plug hole as you turn the crank pulley and you should feel the pressure push against it as the piston approaches TDC.

Well it is a possibility that it is 360* out. I didn't check for thumb pressure, just rotor location, crank timing mark location, visually could see #1 piston top, and just figured that was #1 TDC. Didn't even think about the compression stroke. I redid it 3 times with same result.

Without checking for the compression stroke then it could definitely be possible that I just kept getting it set on the exhaust stroke. I will have my friend hold his finger over the plug hole when he gets here. A little too odd of a position to be in to put my thumb over hole and turn motor without a remote starter.

BOOYAH! I have conquered the beast. TURTCEL lives.

Dizzy was 180* out. Thanks David.

Clutch feels so good and the oil pan/rear main is not leaking.

After finding and tightening the loose intake/exhaust bolts down the decelleration stutter is now gone too. 2 birds, 1 stone.

Thanks to everyone that helped me get through this PITA of a job. Most appreciated.

Hey by following your explanation and a repair Manual for 87'. im now about to be able to put out the transaxe and tranny in the same time. But stupid probleme, the two nuts of the 4wd arm lever is maby strip (turn but she is not coming out) or stuck in the rust. i dont wanna break it and i dont really know how put streagth on it. An other point i did lost my mark on rear drive shaft ( a couple of you did talk that is was importante to put it back as it was)

Use needle nose vicegrips to grab the shaft before trying to loosen nut on the arm.
If you have another shaft and the car your working on is junk cut it in half

are you getting two wrenches on it (both nuts, inner and outer)?
prying back the small rubber boot to get at the inner nut?
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.
