front wheel bearings

Post by raybbaby »

Wow! I haven't been to this site in forever. Almost forgot about it. Well, it seems I keep having a front passenger side wheel bearing that keeps going out. It's begging for the third replacement in less than two months. I think I may have to replace the spindle, but I'm unsure of where to look for one. Is it a dealer only item? I don't want to get a part from a junkyard that suffers from the same problem.

wheel bearings aren't a common problem on tercels, i'd just get a new knucle with wheel bearing from the junk yard and rock that.

I had a wheel bearing go on mine, I was going to write up a guide, but I never got around to it. There not super hard to replace, better if you have a press, but you can do it with a punch. if you to do it let me know and I'll write something up for you.

hi,
on this subject, i have an interesting sound coming from my front drive shaft or bearings, RHS i think,
when i come to a stop from reversing and then pull away in first, there is a noticably loud click click click from the wheel area.

anyone heard this and diagnosed it before?

maybe i should pull the drive shaft out and check the spline??

That is the sound the CV joints makes as they wear out. Sometimes even poorly rebuilt ones click too. YOu can gamble and continue to drive on it until you can replace it, or you can replace it now. Complete failures of the CV joint are rare, but they do happen. Time to concider getting new front axle assemblies.

it's not the usual CV knocking when turning... i guess i already explained what it is doing...
it's been doing it now for over a year and doesn't seem to have got much worse...
and still no knocking when at full lock.
must just be a different part of the CV joint going than the usual knocking noise one...
there are shafts on ebay here for about 125 each side... complete ready to install with boots and joints ect.

keep driving it than, if it fails you can always get home by putting it in 4wd.

$125 each is a bit high. I would shop around. Check the Rockauto link from this page.
