So, I've finished scanning the entire factory manual for the '85 tercel.... It's 64MB. Right now, it's each section has it's own PDF file, so there are about 30 files.

I've tried merging them with Ghost Script, but the merged size came out to 101MB, and there was a loss of quality in the PDFs.

It would be nice to have them all merged as one, but have "frames" in the pdf such that the index is inside the left window. So that instead of having to scroll through 800 pages to find the BE section, you just click, and it takes you to the start of the BE section.

Anybody every create a PDF this way? I suppose I will download Acrobat (ARRR Matey).

And as far as distributing goes, maybe we could use yahoo email. I email myself the files (in zipped chunks), then whomever wants them also signs up for a yahoo email, then I email the files. A real PITA, but I have nowhere to host a 60MB file that many people might download.

Or better, create a yahoo email, and just post the username/passwd and let people download at will.

Nice work man!! Thats awesome! I had started on my 86 manual a while back, but didn't get to far.

Maybe we could have it hosted on our site? (http://www.tercel4wd.com) That would be the most ideal solution. It could just be put into the 'Technical Info' section.

I'll email our website administrator about this. 64MB is not bad at all. People can just click on the section they want. This would be a huge resource.

I've just tried to upload it, I couldn't login.

The PDF is currently on "the net" somewhere, I just need to FTP or SCP it.

Maybe it was disabled, I did take some time in finally getting a chance to try and upload it... I had to work today.

i am the new owner of a Toyota Tercel SR5 4WD with the 6 speed manual. It needs a new hatch lid and some other body work but the engine needs most of the work which I want to do myself. I would love to get a copy of your pdf manual. This is my yahoo nick. could you send me a copy of each file as a separate message? I would muchly appreciate it. ta Mate

I was trying to get a hold of the PDF factory manula you guys distributed online.
However, it locked up my browser something chronic.

Any ideas why?

Do you have adobe acrobat reader? When you click on the link, your browser is automatically downloading the file. The file is 64MB, so depending on your internet connection, it'll take a while to download. It'll look like your browser is locked up, but just leave it for an hour or so (or however long it'll take your PC to download 64MB), and when you come back it should have opened up in Acrobat Reader. You can then click the little 'disk' icon in the acrobat reader to save the file to your computer.

Good luck.

Nope, still freezes up.

I've got the latest Acrobat Reader here, along with the Univeristy of Tasmania's damn fast internet conneciton , so 64Mb isn't too big a worry. :D

It'd be nice to be able to simply link to it and save the target of the link through IE instead of having to download the thing and then open it, which is where I think it's going cuckoo.

Any chance of a link to a FTP site or something?

Okay, I figured out how to get the .pdf manual to download. I was having the same trouble that Lateer was having. I have a fast connection, but I couldn't get Acrobat to read the file. What I did was create my own html file with a link to www.tercel4wd.com/1985_Manual.pdf
then opened it in IE and right clicked the link, chose "save target as" and saved the file to my hard drive. Now it opens fine! Use the link above and right click it and choose "save target as" and you should be able to save it to your hard drive.

Good Luck!
