My car is a 1987 Toyota Tercel DX Wagon RHD 1452cc manual driven car.
I want to shorten my parking brake cable length by an inch.
After cut a end, would it safe to make a nipple with lead with a wood mold? (without a compression machine)
Would it safe to make the parking brake cable nipple with Lead?

Re: Would it safe to make the parking brake cable nipple with Lead?
sounds risky. there is no way to adjust the length? can you put a spacer somewhere in the cable routing?
seems to me a swagged sleeve installed with a large pliers or wire cutter should make a good enough attachment.
If you can get a good bond between the heated metal and the cable end it should work, but it may take some experimenting to get the metal to bond well.
Good luck.

I alredy had cut the cable by an inch.
I have a crocodile iron nipple in which cable could be tightened with a nut.
If after tightened the nut, and then heating the nipple with butane torch and put Lead, would that be safe?

Re: Would it safe to make the parking brake cable nipple with Lead?
it would depend how well a bond you get. typical alloy is not usually pure lead, but a mix of several other metals to improve bonding. Adding lead and heat may weaken it over just the nut, the heat could damage the holding power of the clamp device.
are you concerned that the nut by itself will not be strong enough connection?

I am not certain about it. Could it slip through nut with vehicle weight?

Dumindu,
This won't likely help you, but I used this hillbilly repair about four years ago when I first got my car as something temporary. I just wanted to include it in this discussion for future searches. That was about 45,000 miles ago and it's still working fine.
I would trust the u-clamps more than a homemade plug on the end of a cable.

PS - here is the same pic in case photobucket clouds the original, you can zoom in on it.

Re: Would it safe to make the parking brake cable nipple with Lead?
Thank you for your valuable advice.
I can understand that nuts and bolts can retain the cable. I will test with nipple with nuts. Will always use 1st gear until I become confident.
