Fixing frozen Shift Pin located on Tranny Extension Housing

Post by xirdneh »

two ways to get a stuck pin unstuck
First picture shows working shift pin (the pin is out all the way)
when it is stuck in the "IN" position it can be difficult to free it up
I have tried soaking the whole thing in penetrating oil for weeks with no luck
I have tried heating with a propane torch with no luck.
Second picture shows 3/16 dia hole drilled in top
then I flattened the point of a big nail and used it to drive the pin out
then I hammered the pin back down and repeated till it was free
I tapped the hole for a 1/4-20 screw to plug it
Third picture shows another way, I ground the top until the top came off.
then I could disassemble the whole thing and clean it
then I welded the top back on

Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.
