Tercel Colors

Post by brianp »

I was just playing around with the line art picture ctishman had put on the flyer, to see what sort of colors would look good on the Tercel, if I ever have to repaint it. I was trying to copy some of the colors you see on Subarus or Land Rovers. :D Recently I did see an older subaru painted in one of the colors the current subarus are painted in, and it looked pretty good! :)

Try black, slate grey-ish, maybe a forest green like Ford SUV's use...
I still like the red and blue. The green is so-so, but the yellow looks... odd... lol

I've seen just one in dark blue, looks like it's the original color. I also like them in lime green, or purple. But then I also have a thing for mine in bright orange.
All I know is I couldn't stand the original gold colour. I drove for a year or so like that until I painted mine. I saw one with some crazy spider man design on it once.
I would like to see some other interesting colours or two tone combos.
Any colour looks ok until it is tainted by the curse of rust.

Mine's dark blue, maybe the one you saw. It's original color, about half is actually original paint. I always vote blue. I love it!

Blue blue blue,

blue blue.

The blue tercel is in Calgary, it is quite rusty, unlike yours.
I was in Halifax last year and I saw a tercel in decent shape. It was painted mat black. Sorta stealth looking but sorta ugly too.
I did see a mat dark green tercel (army style) going the opposite direction on the hiway a while ago. We were both checking each other's tercels out as we passed. Most tercel drivers I pass don't seem to notice mine. Pedestrians at crosswalks give me second look though, mostly for the hood ornament.

There was a two-tone color for the JDM Tercel 4wd Wagon called Wilderness Toning. I think that is very cool, but I'd reapint any Tercel 4wd Wagon in Subaru Medium Green.

I think I'm gonna paint mine the D.C.'s 'Vanilla'. Since it's already white (mostly), I think it will lay really well. Either that or some slightly off white with a really dark charcoal bottom 1/2. Or something really stupid like a fat paint job using 70's colors and following the body lines along the doors to the roof-with a big, flowing, 3-color stripe. Like you see on the late 70's-early 80's celicas sometimes. Except bigger. Maybe tan, olive green and lime green for the stripe, with the same white re-sprayed as the base. It would be phat. Tell me it wouldn't....

I've seen one all camo-ed out. Wheels and all. Actually looked like it was a nice car. No big rusty spots, nice light tint on the windows, couple of fog lamps on the bumper. Anyway....

Seen a couple converted into trucks in junkyards, one was painted with floruescent street marker paint. I was gonna paint my 82 Tercel this color after me and a buddy found what was left of a case that must have fallen off a truck (it was a mess, about 1/3 were busted open). I think we chose to go skating instead.

Oh man, I'm ramblin'.
