If I can manage a suitable repower in the future

I like this look! Maybe a little too radical.

I love this car, its from @andyjgolesch on instagram. Those tires and basset rims are a mixed blessing though, I believe he has been plagued by transmission issues.

I’m hopeful a little body lift and reasonable tires will keep my future project a daily driver, but a more capable, powerful daily.

What size is reasonable? I have 195/75/14 ATs on my lifted T4 and it's about as sluggish as I can take. I don't know how some ppl can take the 27s or bigger. What are you running/plan on running?

Able,

I'm running similar 14s to yours on my 85' and it drags around pretty well. If/when I proceed with my "keeper" build, it will hopefully include a repower with more torque. Then I would have to be careful not to tear up the tranny.

The ever present Achilles heel. There's gotta be some other motor/4x4 drive line that can be squished in there somehow.

Abletobecain,

I have 195/75/14's on mine but they are actually around 26.3 inchs or so. I would agree that they are about the limit for the power coming from the 3A. This car is an auto too.

there are several engines that can be installed with some messing around, but I do not think there is anything to replace the trans.

the early 4x4 toy trucks, with the 4 cylinder 20R engine, might be made to work, the configuration of the trans is similar to the T4wd, it is just a bit larger. again, that would take some messing around to fab mounts, drive shaft, linkage, etc.

Is that a Justy? I just bought an engine stand off a guy with 30 Justys on his compound. Looks like a fun little car. Did you have to swap motors to push those tires?

Nope, it's an '80-89 hatchback. Stock engine and trans, but this particular one has a Nissan transfer case as well with a stock rear diff mounted below the engine driving the front wheels. (Belongs to a friend of mine)
