Project #2 - 1985 SR5

Post by Hoodwagon »

Found this car on Facebook for insanely cheap as a none running parts car. Woman was going to scrap it for 50 dollars. She said it had run when parked about 1.5 years ago. Sunroof was left partially ajar in Oregon for 1.5 years.....so it is hella funky.

I got it back to my folks farm and started it first attempt with a charged battery and some starting fluid. Drove around a few minutes, tranny feels good, 4WD works. Oil was gone dry, leaking all out the front of the cam and crank seals. Some janky wiring to the stereo and an unidentified button in the center console. mostly done with home style twi st on connectors. Struts are blown. Lots of oil coming into the air filter from the PCV... I'll figure it out.

Since my other Tercel is dandy and nice my intention for this one is to be fun and geared toward minor OHV. Might do the Oregon Gambler 500 but mostly to pick up trash on Forest service land and not seriously kill the T4's.

Interior out now. Doing my best on this one while spending very little money so let's see if the mold can be killed.

Anyone have a single alloy waffle they want to sell? I may refinish them if I can find a 4th one

good save!

what a shame, seen it before, send a fixable car to the crusher becauswe they do not want to bother.. old car needs to be fixed so they park it, years later they just junk it to get it out of their yard. at least they should try and get it to someone that is willing to restore it.

I Have found a few fixers in people's yards this way. wish I had more time to save more of them, but I am still busy making a living.

Lots of plans for this Tercel! Not sure if we will be taking it to the gambler or not. We do know that we at least temporarily will be trying to make it look like the pictured McDonalds STOMPER truck toy.

Addressing oil leaks, running fine for now. Spending an upcoming day getting work done.

Shame about the moldy seats. Look to be in good shape otherwise though. And I've got a couple of those stomper toys too lol. There's that blue one and a grey/red one as well.

Let the car run for 1.5 hours sitting still yesterday. No worries, no overheat, no puddles under after.

Interior carpets, seats, door panels and plastics were removed for cleaning and de-molding. Used white vinegar and Lysol as cleaning/killing agents.

I know of your thread; do you know for sure that the member used your thread to create new boots?

I did find a set of straight waffle alloys for 75 bucks today though so it's not a bad day

No, nor did I infer that he did.
I do know that at least 3 other members have over the years.

Pretty good score on the wheels!

A freind of mine got me the material from her mother who works at a fabric store I took them to aplace where they make leather clothes for bikers and other clothing. I gave him a shifter boot and a 4WD shifter boot and he copied them. I had him make the shifter boot three inches taller than it was originally because as you know they slide down the shifter so this way it can’t. He made me to sets fo $80.00
